Having a wide variety of literature for my students to read in my classroom will help in several ways. First, giving students the choice in books is key for interest in reading. As 1st graders are just learning to read more and more books, my goal is to provide them with a variety of book to pick from. In addition, students will be given the opportunity to bring these books home each night to read to their families. As an educator who is working towards their Reading Teacher License, I am very passionate about teaching my 1st graders a love for reading. One fun activity that we do during reading time is flashlight reading. During flashlight students get to pick a spot in the room, get a flashlight, and read away!
