Welcome to Health Class! Cambridge Public Schools provides a Comprehensive Health Education program that has been developed to provide information and opportunities for skill building intended to help students avoid health risks. The requested books support challenges young people face today and build on the knowledge and skills taught in grades 3rd-8th grade Health Education. The overall goal of Health Education is to provide students with the skills to make decisions during their adolescent, teen years and beyond while promoting their overall well being. The topics covered in the health curriculum include: physical health, social and emotional health, mental health, safety, bullying awareness, gender identity, family and self identity, and violence prevention. Life skills such as decision-making, communication, problem-solving, resisting peer and media pressures, goal-setting, accessing resources, appreciating diversity and managing emotions are also part of the curriculum. Having inclusive books to support our conversations in health class will help place the information in the context of one's values.
