This year I have an amazing group of 25 Kindergarteners. While they have had very limited exposure to schooling, I have been amazed with their resiliency and willingness to learn. When the pandemic started, my students were only 3 years old! Due to this, many of my students never went to preschool or pre-kindergarten. This has caused my students to lack social skills, academic skills, and fine motor skills. One area where I have seen my students struggle is with Math, for that reason, I am requesting magnetic numbers, math manipulatives and items that will help my students gain knowledge and skills in this area. These items will be used in hands on learning centers where they can explore and manipulate while learning crucial math concepts and improving their fine motor and social skills. These materials will help me to differentiate learning as well so that even my students that are struggling, or those that are excelling, will benefit. The materials will help me address the following standards with my students: K.CC.A.1, K.OA.A.3, and K.CC.B.4. I have also requested materials that will help my students express creativity while working on their fine motor skills. Students need to develop fine motor skills to be successful in other topics including writing!
