The use of our Chromebooks during class time is super engaging for the students, and quiets the classroom nicely which allows me to work with a small group on focused reading. However, headphones are a consistent struggle due to the cords getting tangled, etc. In the past, students have had to supply their own headphones and some students are nicer than others. Some don't last longer than a week. By supplying the funds needed for quality headphones, it will streamline the process of students using the Chromebooks, provide them a level of comfort, and eliminate wasted time.
The games being ordered would be a great engagement tool and support many of the reading and math standards. In first grade, students excel in reading, going from reading 10 to 70 words per minute by the end of the year. The games would review all the components of reading including phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding, fluency, and comprehension. In first grade, learning through playing is an everyday occurrence. The flashcards would help me develop their math fact fluency and play a fun game called Around the World.
Lastly, expo markers and sharpie markers are also everyday items used by teachers and students. These items are hard to replace throughout the year on short notice.
