Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. Each day, they choose a seating option that will support their engagement in learning. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating options. The wobble stools and yoga balls will allow students to sit at a desk while still allowing some movement. These will be extremely beneficial for some students who just need to get the wiggles out. Flexible seating supports the social-emotional standards of learning for students by helping them with self-awareness and regulating positive personal behavior and interactions in the classroom. Studies in our school district show that students who report higher support for their social-emotional well-being have significantly higher math and reading test scores.
