I have started a "Culture of Jewelry" class in my middle school. In this class we explore different types of jewelry and design tying both STEM and social studies together. My students have looked at the intricacies of creating and constructing different forms of jewelry, but what better way to learn then to complete the projects themselves! We have spent much time learning about Native American culture and the significance of Peyote bags to their culture. To construct these bags we need many beads for the multitude of designs they wants to execute as well as string. I strongly believe that hands on learning is the best way to gain appreciation for different cultures and their arts and this project would help the students gain those insights.
