Learning requires long-term repetition, strengthening bonds between neurons, which requires repeated activity, or practice. To transfer this into my classroom I can infer that all those little brains there are physically growing and changing every time they learn something. And there are ways to keep that happening. In other words, intelligence is malleable. Exercise improves learning on 3 levels: 1. It optimizes your mindset, improves alertness, attention, and motivation. 2. It prepares and encourages nerve cells to bind to each other. 3. It spurs the development of new nerve cells from stem cells in the hippocampus. In my classroom, I can motivate my students by repeating an activity, retrieving a memory, and reviewing the material in a variety of ways. This will help build thicker and stronger connections in the brain. These materials will help me to teach my students about how the brain works and encourage them to use their brains. The realization that they can change their brains through practice and study is vital to increase their self-esteem. I start teaching the times tables by jumping through the social distance dots. I am thinking that if each student has a jump rope will be more motivating.
