This year I would like to create a sensory room for our students to go when they need to calm themselves or find focus. The sensory room will promote social and emotional wellness for our students who struggle with sensory overload. This space will provide opportunities for students to regroup and come back more prepared to learn. This will be a safe place for students to go when they need it. Studies show that when students have a sensory room to go to it has a positive impact on their motivation and learning. The sensory room will be used by all students that need it, such as students with autism, learning difficulties, visual difficulties, emotional disturbances… Students will be given the opportunity to relax in a calm, comfortable space that has different types of lighting. There will be several different sensory toys for them to engage with. This will allow students to come back to class refreshed and ready to learn lessons that are aligned with the Nevada Academic Content Standards.
