Teaching students with disabilities social skills is a continuous need. They need to be taught how to interact with others, take care of themselves, meet their basic needs, and how to appropriately respond to emotions. We work daily to provide good examples of appropriate behavior. The last couple of years have been especially tough on students and their social skills have suffered from the extended times at home. Students engage well with books and like listening to stories and finding ways that they can connect them to their lives. We like to use stories alongside social skills lessons to help the students see how others have applied the skills.
