As I work with a large number of students on the Autism Spectrum, the use of sensory toys and tactile feedback is critical to support attention to task, calming, and other elements of executive functioning skills during their work. Furthermore, visuals in the form of cards, modules, and wordless picture books provide a number of functionality that supports my students retaining new information for longer periods of time. All of my students are Special Education students, and the communication goals within their IEPs require a variety of supports and feedback in order to be highly successful. They will further benefit from a variety of turn taking games and object/picture identification/labeling to support vocabulary growth, grammar, sentence structure, comprehension, social skills, and intelligibility in speaking. All items that I chose have more than one use, and will be utilized to the full extent possible.
