Gelli plates can be an amazing way to learn about layers. Gelli plates have so many different uses and I want to show how to make depth in an art project. We will take different materials to add texture to each layer and show how complex we can make a project. The amazing this about Gelli plate projects is that they can stand alone, be used as a background for a drawing, or even as part of another project! For example, something I could do with younger students is have each table make cake layers with the Gelli plates. Each layer would have different textures and colors. Then students would cut and glue them down to look like a layered cake for a collaborative project!
