8th grade math can be challenging. By providing scientific calculators for students to use on various mathematical concepts will boost their confidence in working out problems. Students are allowed to use calculators on various state assessment tests and it is extremely important to practice with them so the students know how to use the calculator when it comes to test time. Unfortunately, I currently do not have enough calculators for every student to have their own due to larger class sizes and therefore they have to share. This poses a few issues: 1. Not every student is engaged because they are waiting to use a calculator. 2. When students have to share supplied they tend to not focus on the task and will sit there and chat. We use calculators on a daily basis in math for a variety of topics such as simplifying expressions, solving equations, finding volume or area of shapes and other various topics.
