As part of the Next Generation Science Standards, the focus has moved from learning content to understanding how our world work and illustrating it through models. For example, my 8th graders use a model to illustrate the role of cellular division and differentiation in producing and maintaining complex organisms (HS-LS1-4). Gifted students model these scientific phenomenon using 3D modeling programs, and being able to print these 3D models with a 3D printer would bring that excitement to the next level. The possibilities with this 3D printer are endless. Students can use their PBIS "cub bucks" to "buy" a print of their choice. They can model characters in their ELA classes and print them to help tell the story. Students can create balloon cars to practice with aerodynamics. This 3D printer would be used to its full potential and would be a great addition to our Gifted and Accelerated Advanced Placement science classes.
