Most of my students have developed an adverse reaction to reading. As reading is very difficult for them, they have found a million reasons NOT to like any books. My students have searched too long for books at their reading level, only to find books about topics that they have long moved past in their development. They need an opportunity to read about things that interest them! Literature with developmentally appropriate story lines and topics, written at their reading level, will have the impact they need to fall in love with reading!
