These fantastic first graders love reading and are making outstanding growth as they explore nonfiction texts and literature in our classroom library and in their guided reading groups. Many of the students in my class are reading and writing below grade level expectations this year. My goal is to give them effective small and whole group reading and writing instruction to help them bridge this learning gap and read fluently this year. I will use the magnet letters, whiteboards, and sentence strips in my small guided reading groups as students build words and track text. (Reading Foundational Skills 1.1.3, Language 1.1.2d)
