My students are a wonderful group of curious and excited young learners. They are very eager to learn to read, and are very excited that they are already able to read simple text. We have a 45-60 min. block of time for guided reading. During this time I meet with a group of leveled readers to develop the literacy skills they need. The other students are working in small groups at literacy stations, which are mostly activities or games that I have made or purchased myself. For most of my students, this is their favorite time of the day(except lunch of course). They love the independence of working at their station, and then meeting in their reading groups to read books at their level.
