Learning centers are an amazing way to get students to take a more active role in their learning. Phonics teaches the relationship between phonemes and graphemes, or the letters that represent individual sounds. With the phonics centers, students can practice various phonics skills that help students develop the foundation for reading. Literacy centers promote student collaboration, facilitate student motivation, and provide targeted practice for students. Math centers provide an opportunity for students to practice and apply skills and strategies taught within the classroom. While students are engaged in purposeful centers, teachers have the opportunity to work individually or with small groups to meet the needs of students.
