I will use all of the books that are included in my project to promote reading in my classroom. Due to COVID and distance learning last year, students had to find digital books to read during class. The school library was closed, neighborhood libraries were closed, and when few students chose to return to school, our classroom library was closed. This year I want to have real books in the hands of all of my students. I am working to build motivation to get back to reading real books. After the COVID year many students are not as motivated as the year prior, I am adding extrinsic motivation with the many little prizes I am asking for, to help lead to the intrinsic motivation and the want to read and do well in the future. RF.2.4 Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension. RF.2.4a Read on-level text with purpose and understanding. RF.2.4b Read on-level text orally with accuracy, appropriate rate, and expression on successive readings. RF.2.4c Use context to confirm or self-correct word recognition and understanding, rereading as necessary. RF.2.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words. RL.2.1 Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text. RL.2.10 By the end of the year, read and comprehend literature, including stories and poetry, in the grades 2-3 text complexity band proficiently, with scaffolding as needed at the high end of the range.
