Phonics and number knowledge are two of the main standards kindergartners focus on in school. While I teach guided reading, I will provide students with independent pre-made math and literacy centers. The centers will engage students while they learn about numbers, letters, sounds, and CVC words (L.1.a, RF.2b, RF.1.d, L2d, K.CC.4, K.CC.4a, K.CC.4b, K.CC.4c) The pre-made centers will allow students to practice skills and be tested on skills they have learned in class thus saving me time as a teacher in assessing and creating the centers. Learning independence as 5 years is an important social/emotional of the kindergarten experience. Providing fun and engaging centers helps students want to learn through hands and play and become independent learners.
