If there is one thing students love, it's getting up and moving around to break up the monotony of sitting at their desks all day. Students also like to talk with each other and socialize. By providing an Escape Room experience, students are available to achieve both of those goals and yet continue learning! Escape Rooms provide a chance for students to use their prior knowledge as well as critical thinking skills to solve puzzles and other mysteries. Even better, this gives students a chance to do so as a group. I have found that when students engage in these types of activities they tend to forget that they are actually applying their knowledge which will help reinforce what they know as well as help others to learn concepts they might not yet have understood. This project will provide four kits of breakout material. These kits can be used for groups to work against other groups or even other classes! The great part about having four separate kits is that it will also allow me to provide different experiences for students based on their academic level and need. The kits are made up of one giant breakout box that can't be opened until all the locks have been opened. I can do as many as 1 to 6 different locks that the students have to work through in order to open a lock. Once inside the big box, there is a smaller locked box. Other materials, such as invisible ink that can be viewed with ultraviolet light and the "infrared" tool can help students to decode a message. These kits are highly customizable and can be used over and over again throughout the school year and indeed from year to year!
