To use a calculator or not to use a calculator when teaching math? It depends on the teacher, what the teacher is teaching, the ability level of students, and the grade level of students. The use of calculators can give students access to mathematics in a new way by giving them opportunities to engage with higher-level math content. Whatever your view may be on this debate, my students need to have calculator skills in order to function as an adult in society having special needs. I would like to incorporate calculators into my curriculum to teach my middle school students important math concepts that include fractions, decimals, two-factor multiplication problems, equivalent equations, and a multitude of other math concepts.
