The Desk Bands will help the students relieve some stress while remaining seated at their desks. I have several students who have not been in school since March of 2020 and are finding the transition back to a traditional classroom a bit challenging. The bands allow the students to move without actually having to move around, which is important when trying to maintain some social distancing and also a great way to self-manage their behavior which is a SEL goal. The calculators will provide engagement and help students solve multistep word problems using the four operations as well as finding factor pairs (4.OA.A.1, 4.OA.A.3 and 4.OA.B.4). The set of books will put a physical book in each child's hand, making it easier for the students to refer to details and examples in the text (RL.4.1), determine the meaning of unknown words and phrases (RL4.4) and compare and contrast the point of view from which different stories are narrated (RL.4.6).
