The use of standing desks in my classroom will allow the students the freedom to choose a different place to work if they are feeling tired or "wiggly". Research suggests we can learn better when we are standing. Standing allows them to burn off any extra energy and improves classroom behavior. It also allows students to maintain their concentration that tends to be lost when sitting and "resting" in chairs. These desks will be an opportunity for students to choose when they feel like they need an opportunity to better focus and release energy. By donating to our project, you will help 6th graders improve their attention and focus; which will ultimately improve their academic success. Sitting in a classroom for 90 minutes straight is hard for young learners and being able to stand and stretch will hep them become more successful.
