PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) play a significant role in our middle school classrooms. In order to teach our students how to be accountable for their actions while also recognizing all of the positive contributions they make to their learning every day, we have built a Point System. At the end each of our classes, students reflect on their classroom behaviors which we have tied to 5 specific points: being on time, staying on task, being prepared, listening and being considerate and staying in seat. After reflecting, students give themselves the points they believe they have earned. Student earned points are tallied throughout the month and students use these points to go shopping in our Lavelle Prep Point Store to purchase items they love and have requested. This store is open for our hard working students so they can be rewarded for their self awareness and commitment t learning. Students have requested items like snacks, headphones, fidget/sensory toys, and more. Our students are excited to purchase these items and use them throughout the school day and at home to continue enhancing their learning. The items purchased from this project will help us stock the shelves of our Point Store. Our students are inspired and motivated by earning points, which keeps them engaged in their learning and aware and rewarded for their positive behaviors. Seeing all of the fun and exciting items they can earn for staying committed to learning keeps our students happy, engaged and ready to learn!
