As the special education teacher for grades pre-K to 3, I am encountering many different ability levels. Due to distance learning, many students in each grade level are working on skills they normally would have mastered in the previous grade level. I am now working on Reading Foundational skills such as letter/sound identification and sight words with more of my upper grade students who have fallen behind. The materials I would love to have would keep that learning exciting by using tactile materials and having a variety of materials. I also work with students who have autism and have struggled emotionally with reentering the classroom environment. It is very calming for them to engage with sensory items which I would be so grateful to have. They also benefit from games and toys that peak their interest in order to stimulate communication and play among peers. My special education students have a wide range of disabilities and would benefit significantly by the materials that I would love to have for them.
