Our Kindergarten students have grown up in a COVID world. Play is an important part of a young child's development, from learning how to socialize and work with others to practicing their language skills. Due to social distancing and safety measures, our students have missed out on day care and/or preschool experiences. Students have not had an opportunity to play!
Play allows multiple opportunities for students to reach various state standards. For example, one of our Speaking and Listening standards states that children need to follow agreed-upon rules for conversations. Students working in the dramatic play area must decide who is going to be a customer and who is going to be the waiter for successful play in the "restaurant." Students can also practice early phonics knowledge by creating a map with labels to plan for building. Students can also practice retelling familiar stories using puppets in the library center.
Play is such an important part of a young child's development. This project will help provide my students with the opportunity to be creative, curious, brave, collaborative, and communicative. Students will learn how to work with others, solve problems, and expand their language skills.
Thank you so much for your time and support!
