With this school year being inside the classroom full time, I want my students to get their hands messy when creating. During online learning, most students only used pencil and paper to create. Now being back in person, I want them to experience the joy of printmaking. This process is a hands-on way for students to use the emotions they went through during 2019-2021, to create something that visually represents what they went through. The drying rack will be a great addition to my classroom. Right now, we do not have a way to store wet medium projects. Until I figure out a way, students will not be able to explore these types of mediums. The jelly plates would only be used in the classroom. The other materials, such as ink and brayers can be sent home with the student or brought to the students who are learning from home. They could use a plastic bag as a swap out for the jelly plate.
I want to use Printmaking as a way for my students to help with social-emotional learning. I know everyone had a hard time during the COVID-19 pandemic, and still have to process what they went through. In my class, I want my students to explore the ways Printmaking can transform one’s feelings into art. I will connect color theory and how feelings/moods are connected with particular colors.
Some of the standards my lesson will connect to are:
VA: Cr1.HS.1I Use multiple approaches to begin creative endeavors.
VA: Cn10.HS.1I Document the process of developing ideas from early stages to fully elaborated ideas.
