I will use these materials to build my struggling readers' word knowledge, and then encourage them to write in a journal and create a book. They will read books to inspire them and give them ideas for what a book should look like. By inspiring my students to become authors in the classroom, I will encourage them to read books as a tool to become a better writer. I plan to use this as a way to engage students in both reading and writing so that with more practice they grow as both readers and writers every day. I included some sight word journals to build confidence in students who need to work on foundational skills so that they feel prepared to write their own book, strengthening the possibility that they truly want to do what is asked of them at school.
