Many of my students have acquired learning gaps due to missed instruction for quarantines and school shut downs. In order to fill these gaps and create a positive learning experience we are using more and more online resources. In order to be able to effectively use these resources the students need to be able to listen and interact with online lessons and material. These headsets will help students to practice their speaking and listening skills which are an important part of the NVACS for ELA. In my classroom students will do this through cross-curricular activities embedded in the math lessons. When focusing on the math standards for 6th-grade it is important for students to have opportunities to draw conclusions and explain their reasoning through speaking, listening, and writing (NVACS SL 6.4). This practice aids all students in building deep connections to the material. The easel will be used to create an interactive word wall and objectives board. Students will be able to manipulate the words and objectives for each unit. Anchor charts and word walls get lost on the wall or are too high to interact with. The goal is to make the supports more accessible to students. This will allow students to take a more active role in their learning by letting them choose how best to use their tools. This is a part of the Standards for Mathematical Practices which calls for students to "Use appropriate tools strategically."
