The larger desks will allow appropriate legroom for these students. Creating a comfortable work environment lessens distractions and is essential for learning. Special needs students become easily distracted by others' behavior in the class. Cramped desks cause the students to fidget, squirm and complain about their learning environment. These actions also affect their classmate's learning. In addition, this will minimize interruptions in their learning because they are uncomfortable at their desk. Currently, I allow them to get up and walk around to relieve leg pain. This time away from the work and reduces work production. More transitions opportunities (up and down), make it difficult for students to refocus on their work when they return to their seat.
