Many of my students only exposure to books is when they come into my library. Having diverse books in my library will give the students a chance to read books with characters that look like them and that they can relate to. Identifying with characters is important for students; it makes them more eager to read. Seasonal and favorite character books (ex: Pete the Cat) also excite my students and get them to read more. I try to get several books of their favorite characters and then encourage them to read them all. With these books, I can increase my students' interest in reading, which will help their reading and comprehension skills. These books will be read both in school by me during story time on the ABC rug, teachers during class, students during silent reading time, and at home with their families.
