An organized classroom that is set up to accommodate cooperative learning while still respecting COVID restrictions is essential to little learners. Reducing opportunities for supply sharing, collaborative projects, and team-building because of social distancing leaves some gaps in social-emotional curriculum opportunities. Standards that specifically target speaking/listening and discussion etiquette such as SL.K.1.a, SL.K.3 as well as language standards such as L.K.1f need a collaborative space that is COVID safe for students to practice. We have to get very creative in the way we structure our learning environments so that students do not miss out on social-emotional opportunities. I am confident that the organizational items, such as the bookcases and book storage cart will lend to that structure. I also have included supplies that previously were able to be shared (paint, markers, headphones, etc.) With our diligence in keeping students safe, individual supplies can eliminate that concern as well as offer an opportunity for every student to participate in activities.
