Many of the students in my class are reading below our school district's grade level expectations and/or missing key mathematical concepts from last year. My goal is to give my students hands on experiences to use during partner time that will bridge their learning gaps. My students will work cooperatively in groups and with partners to increase their social emotional skills while learning from each other. These important life skills were greatly missed during online learning last year. My students will use magnet letters to build and manipulate short vowel words. (RF 1.1.3b) They will use whiteboards to practice writing sight words (L.1.2D), I will print game cards such as quiz quiz trade, concentration, bingo, and I Spy on the bright colored paper. (I have games for most of the First Grade Foundational Reading Standards as well as the First Grade Operations and Algebraic Thinking Math Standards). The number line will be a great tool for my kinestetic learners to master adding and subtracting within 20 (1.OAC5) Thank you so very much for your consideration of my project. As first graders, many of my students are experiencing brick and mortar school for their first time, due to many staying at home during the 2020-2021 school year. These resources will help them learn how to share, take turns, and work cooperatively all while learning the essential standards they need to master for first grade.
