I am requesting the maximum amount of funds to build a classroom library. At IMS this year we are implementing a class that every student has to take. This class is a free reading class. It is our goal to help increase literacy skills for the entire population. Literacy skills are important in every subject that a learner becomes involved in, and elevate all areas of their lives. Most middle schoolers are adverse to reading and do not do it as a hobby. I cringe when people say that they hate to read. I really believe that everyone can enjoy reading if they find the right material. This is why a really diverse and contemporary library is so important. I want to be able to offer a wide variety of reading materials, and opportunities to strengthen skills and knowledge.
