In 4th grade students are starting to get traction in reading longer chapter books. It is my desire that they would graduate from the graphic novels and picture books to books that create exciting pictures in their imagination. C.S. Lewis' novel The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe does just that. Students are captivated by the vivid plot and characters. There is so much rich vocabulary and figurative language here that the students will learn and appreciate. When you donate to my project you will be helping me teach a language-rich unit that will propel students to read more chapter books. I have not been able to teach this unit as my current school does not have a class set of these books. I love to do miniature plays from favorite scenes from the book. Students create board games incorporating the literary elements of the book. These exciting lessons are what await my students if I am able to get a class set.
