Math manipulatives, games and a VR set would help me set up fun, explorative, and high tech activities. I will be able to update my classroom to the 21st century needs of my 7th - 12th graders. The math manipulatives give me more options for interesting, hands-on activities while exploring geometric principles. Not only will math applicable games give my students something to look forward to when they finish their work but I will have instructional games to use during homeroom. Disguising learning through games is a great way to stretch a student's thinking without them even realizing it. A VR set would help me move my curriculum to have a more global connection. These tools would help me facilitate my many standards that I teach to my 7th through 12th grade students. Some of these math standards are: 7.RP.A 7.EE.B 7.G.A 7.SP.A 8.EE.C 8.G.B 8.G.C 8.SP.A N-Q.A N-VM.A A-SSE.B A-CED.A A-REI.A A-REI.D G-CO.D G-SRT.B G-GMD.A G-GMD.B G-MG.A Where the new material would really shine is helping strengthen students Mathematical Practices. Students would be able to model their thinking by using manipulatives to illustrate their thinking and construct proofs: making the abstract physical. The VR headset would allow me to expand where I can put real world problems as students would be able to explore distant places. They would be able to explore patterns here and abroad. Geometry really comes alive when you can manipulate 3d objects in real time. The math games are an informal, but powerful, tool to make connections and strengthen logic skills. Students learn best when engaged and all these materials lend themselves to engaging activities.
