The materials in this project will be used to ensure easier access to making music for our economically-disadvantaged students. Studies have repeatedly shown that students that participate in music show a marked improvement in mathematical, reading, and motor skills in comparison with their peers. With the viola and violin instrument sets purchased in this project, I will be able to create a more equitable classroom environment where students learn to be vulnerable, take risks, persevere through obstacles, and get in touch with their more creative attributes. These instruments will be used in small-group instruction, as well as large-ensemble instruction once it is safe to do so.
