Flexible seating allows students to use their voice to choose a seat that will best help them to be successful in the classroom. Students with Autism, Asperger's, Attention Deficit Disorder, anxiety and chronic stress, among other disorders, all benefit from various seating options. Student choice with regards to seating options have been shown to increase focus and attention by allowing movement. In addition, flexible seating contributes to the feeling of safety and security that students experience in a classroom with a positive climate. This project will add an alternate, appropriate seating option in our classroom. My students look forward to choosing a perfect place to sit each day!
