The COVID pandemic has had a big impact on the learning of my students. My students are hands-on learners who benefit from specific instruction and play learning. Loss of class time and instruction during the pandemic has negatively impacted the students' social and emotional learning along with hands-on math and language learning. Being in class gives them time to interact with peers and teachers who can help teach regulation strategies. These new hands-on materials are easy to clean to help keep the classroom environment safe for learning during this COVID time. Each item has been chosen to give my students more math, language, and sensory experiences.
New learning and sensory experiences will really help my students move to the next steps in their education. The math manipulatives will help the students see patterns, identify more and less, but most of all help them count and identify numbers. The books and short word games, and puzzles will help students sound out words, identify the alphabet, and aid in handwriting. The kitchen/food items along with the cars and blocks will help with fine motor skills and social skills such as sharing and asking for help. Students with Autism really benefit from sensory fidgets to help them regulate their emotions/behaviors, so the selected sensory items will help the students have better sensory tools.
The goal in my classroom is to create a fun, engaging, and meaningful education for my students. I want my students to have hands-on learning with quality materials. I hope to build confidence and determination in each student.
