All of our students are facing trouble with the transition from learning at home to learning in school. Our classes can only have one or two small groups right now because of the noise level and the level of distraction it can lead to, but a lot of our students are in need of this type of additional support. In class, the active noise cancelling headphones will provide the opportunity for the kids to receive the support they need in small groups while others are able to fully focus on their iReady lessons without being distracted or causing a distraction. This helps them reduce the amount of noise around them, which in turn reduces the amount of stress they are feeling, and improves their learning experience online. One of the biggest challenges teachers are currently experiencing in the classroom is how students were learning in the comfort of their homes and now it is difficult for them to adjust to the rules and conditions of a school environment. With every class, it is clear that it is hard for students to remain sitting down in front of a desk all day to learn. I noticed that their focus and engagement increases when I provide alternative seating such as sitting on the floor or a yoga ball, which is why I believe the floor pillows will be extremely beneficial. Lastly, the candle sticks will help create a soothing ambiance to the classroom where students can relax. I play jazz in my class and turn off the lights, so having these safe alternative to lighting will most likely result in students feeling comfortable and at home. All of this includes a Harry Potter theme, which is my students' absolute favorite books and movies, because why not add a little magic to learning?
