My students attend an arts-integrated magnet school that serves a diverse population, with many low-income students from diverse ethnic and linguistic backgrounds. They are building community as a class and learning to take a global perspective through a year-long study of world cultures. These primary students will engage in this study with projects that not only integrate literacy, math, science, and social studies, but also through dance, drama, poetry, music, and visual arts. They enjoy hands-on and full-body activities, which is why I believe this rug will be so valuable: it will allow them to use their bodies to identify regions of the world.
