My students all love basketball. Unfortunately, all I have at the school are big 9-foot hoops that are not appropriate for the little guys (K-2). It breaks my heart to see them use their entire weight to jump up and try to shoot and not even get close to the rim.
With these shorter hoops and playground balls, I'd have the appropriate basketball resources for my K-2nd students and students with disabilities to teach them how to properly shoot a basketball with the correct form, along with dribbling and passing something much softer to prevent injuries such as jammed fingers. My goal has always been accessibility for all student populations.
Many students see the school basketball team (4th- and 5th-grade students) and can't wait to try out for those teams. These resources will also allow access to an appropriate size basketball rim for them starting in the kindergarten grades. The playground balls will allow my students to safely and confidently learn the different basketball skills (dribbling, passing, and shooting) without the worry of getting hurt.
I use Physical Education as a vehicle for my students to build character and deal with adversity, and basketball is one of my favorite vehicles to use! With your support, we can make this a reality for my students. Thank you!
