Students with special needs often struggle with sensory regulation in the classroom environment. Classrooms can be loud and bright and overstimulating to our students on the autism spectrum or with sensory processing difficulties. They may feel anxious and unable to cope with the demands of the classroom routine and expectations. Deep Pressure Touch (DTP) provided through weighted materials can help our special students participate more fully in the classroom setting with their peers! This type of sensory input is calming to the nervous system and helps many of our students who struggle get the most out of their educational setting. Weighted vests, lap pads and even weighted stuffed animals are a game changer for these kiddos.
