Everyone faces challenges of some kind but many of my students have more than their fair share. In our Title I school, 85% of students qualify for the free lunch program. A social worker, counselor, and health and dental referrals provide our students with basic services. As a K-8 school, many of our older students shoulder child care responsibilities for siblings. What we lack in funds, however, we more than make up for with our energy, creativity, enthusiasm for learning, and our eagerness to try something new! With education as the key to meeting and overcoming these challenges, our students work overtime. Coming before school, staying after school, on weekends, and in summer, our students are putting in the extra hours, building the academic foundations needed for future success.
