The Nevada Priorities for COVID-19 response and recovery supported by my project are: -Ensuring safe and healthy in-person learning environments conducive to students’ social emotional and academic development -Social and emotional support of students in response to the effects of COVID-19 -Support of parents, families and communities The library in my project provides social emotional support for students and families. The books and games in the library ensure safe and healthy in-person learning environments by helping students manage their emotions. The relaxation area in my project offers emotional support for students in response to the effects of COVID-19 and ensures a safe and healthy in person learning environment by giving students a place to calm down and relax until they can regulate their emotions. Nevada has adopted Five Core Competencies from the Collaborative of Academic, Social and Emotional Learning. Two of the competencies highlighted in my project are: Self-awareness: The ability to accurately recognize one’s emotions and thoughts and their influence on behavior. This includes accurately assessing one’s strengths and limitations and possessing a well-grounded sense of confidence and optimism. Self-management: The ability to regulate one’s emotions, thoughts, and behaviors effectively in different situations. This includes managing stress, controlling impulses, motivating oneself, and setting and working toward achieving personal and academic goals.
