My first grade bilingual students have had little to no schooling. Many of them are newcomers who are trying to make the most out of their first learning experience. They need small group instruction due to social distancing measures that can be counterproductive for in person learning. When I teach whole class they are unable to process because of the mandatory desk shields. They also cannot focus when I am trying to teach everyone. Instead, small groups helps them achieve their goals. Within our small group I am able to pinpoint exactly what each student needs.
