We all need a space to de-escalate when we are feeling overwhelmed or just need a quiet space to relax. Social-emotional development supports students academically because they are unable to learn if their basic needs are not met. Some students have a difficult time in the life of the classroom and need somewhere to calm down. This area will provide a space within the classroom that can be monitored and allow students the opportunity to calm down if they become overwhelmed with the life of the classroom. Each tent will have a calming sensory bin inside to allow students to choose objects that help them. Books that provide social-emotional lessons and narratives will be available for them to look at and for staff to read to them to help foster their social-emotional development and create positive relationships with adults and peers.
