My students are fun, crazy, and full of energy. While I love getting to play volleyball with them during recess or take a dance break in the hallway while we wait for Specials, it is not always easy to focus in the classroom. The constant sitting provides quite a challenge for students who need to move around. While I have grabbed a few things from Facebook Marketplace and taken any donations given to me, I don't seem to have enough options to keep all of the bodies focused while we are learning. Sometimes, you need to learn how to add and subtract while wiggling your bootay. Movement during the school day provides a break for bodies and brains, re-energizes students, and promotes higher levels of focus. The power of choice associated with their seating options has also been shown to have a powerful, positive effect on students when they can have control in their learning environment. My students love getting to "be the teacher" and choose a smart spot in the room to work on their assignments. We currently have multiple heights of tables, adjustable barstools, a few rolley chairs, some bouncy balls, yoga mats, egg chairs, and traditional seating. I would love to include more options as the year progresses to keep them motivated to learn. As well as different seating options, I have also included a few games to keep learning fun and interactive instead of lectures and worksheets all day. And if we are being honest with ourselves, who wouldn't want to learn sight words and throw a velcro dart at the same time? Thank
