Having a class set of iPads will help transform my classroom! It is my goal to meet every student’s needs through a self-paced, mastery-based instructional model that leverages technology to foster human connection, authentic learning, and social-emotional growth. In this model students learn at their own pace, which means that they have the time they need to learn. Students are no longer bored because they do not have to wait for others and others do not struggle while the class moves on without them. Students only progress to new material when they are ready and are always appropriately challenged. As a result students become more self-directed and self-aware. They learn that progress is contingent on mastery, not completion. My favorite aspect is that students get excited to learn and take pride in their work. I recently participated in an intensive training program where I leaned how to implement this model. I created instructional videos, guided notes, collaborative trackers, self-reflection forms, and more. The only problem is students need laptops so that they can do the work in my classroom. I can’t wait for my students to get started on their blended, self-paced, mastery based learning journey.
