The quest of every elementary school teacher is to improve the reading capabilities of their students. Ingenious teachers have used pvc pipes crafted in the form of a telephone in order to allow students to hear themselves as they read. I want to build on this idea. The headphones I am asking for are noise canceling and have a microphone that will sit closely to the students' mouths. The noise canceling will allow them to not be distracted by others recording at the same time. The microphones on these headphones will make it so they can be clearly heard on their own recording.
I want my students to be able to record themselves and be able to focus solely on reading. As they record, they practice more and become better with each take. After they finish their recording, they can go back on their own and listen to it again. They will be listening for their rate, expression, fluency, etc…. They then become enabled to hear mistakes and go back and fix them.
How amazing would it be to have your students record themselves and each week add a new recording? By the end of the year, they have a digital reminder of how far they have come in their reading. I want them to feel confident and brave enough to never give up and keep pushing forward, even if you do not see results right away. They come over time.
